The inauguration of the Turkish Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines Inc. (TCCPI) satellite office in Suterville, Zamboanga City last December 5 opens a lot of opportunities not only for our local business people but also around Mindanao. The business event was attended by city local government led by Vice-Mayor Cesar Iturralde and military top officials like WesMinCom Gen. Raymundo Ferrer, leaders from different business and community sectors. Turkish businessmen also flew in to witness the inaugural ceremony and met local businessmen.

TCCP-Zamboanga Executive Director Coskun Urfan said Turkey is optimistic of the successful business matching (trade) between our country and Turkey. He is assigned in this office to coordinate and offer Turkish products to Filipino distributors as well as source out products for export to their country.

Turkey is the world’s number one exporter of wheat flour and producer of dried apricots, hazelnuts, and organic textile. It is the 2nd producer of table olives and 3rd largest producer of socks and gold jewelry. And it is the 4th largest exporter of knitted clothing, textiles, and olive oil.

Being the 15th largest economic power in the world and the 6th in Europe, Turkey is rank 3rd after China and India in terms of growth. This country is currently one of the G-20 major economies. It is Europe’s number one maker of TV, DVD players and buses; the 2nd biggest commercial vehicle and cement manufacturer, and the 3rd biggest producer of steel and ceramic tiles. In world ranking, it is the 1st producer of boron. 2nd of glass, and 4th of luxury yachts. Other major products from Turkey are electrical machinery and equipment, mechanical appliances, construction materials, bakery products and confectioneries, optical instruments, pharmaceutical products, aircraft and related products.

Philippine products they like to import are household furnishing and clothing, furniture, fishery products, coconut products, mining products, computer parts, tires, etc.Aside from business, Turkey is the most popular tourist destination in the world, with 25 million or more tourists visiting, hence, they need to import more tropical fruits from our country.

TCCP-Philippines President Irfan Karabulut in his message said TCCP is a member of the powerful Confederation of Businessmen and Industrials of Turkey (TUSKON) which has 34,000 business members.  It can assist companies in the Philippines meet with Turkish companies and vice versa. Since their Philippine office opened in Greenhills, San Juan, more Turkish businessmen are visiting our country today. TCCP has also hosted Filipino business people too in their country.
