One of the most exciting events at the Forest Lake Memorial Park last October 31 was the CosPlay Competition 2010 by Omnibus . It was a contest where the participants wore, acted and played their favorite characters as an anime, a comicbook character, a superhero, a movie/television character, a real life personality/historical figure, and as a gaming character. They are called the CosPlayers.

Cosplay is a term that originated in Japan but is based on the English words “Costume Play,” essentially play-acting in costumes. In Japan, CosPlay is not limited to anime/manga, but also a staple of many other entertainment industries such as science fiction and horror. Now and then CosPlayers all over the world gather and share their talents in CosPlay conventions held in different countries.

In Metro Manila and other key cities of our country, CosPlay is a very popular event. It is usually being held in malls as a marketing ploy to attract attention of shoppers. In company events, CosPlayers play entertainers under the guidance of the organizer. And, of course, in parties they never fail to awe guests of all ages.

CosPlay differs from Halloween and Mardi Gras costume. Professional CosPlayers prepare skits with memorized lines and can really play the character’s personality to the hilt as if they are real. Some CosPlayers make their own costumes, investing large amounts of time and money in the process, while others buy their costumes from professional costume designers.  CosPlayer are expected to render the look and texture of the costumes accurately.

Filipina sisters Alodia and Ashley Gosiengfiao are two of the most popular CosPlayers in the Philippines. They have legion of fans worldwide and are paid handsomely for every appearance. They were hired recently by popular cable channel Animax Asia as VJs.

Thanks to Forest Lake Assistant Sales Manager and Omnibus founder Winston Wee, Zamboanga City may produce famous CosPlayers someday that Asia’s Latin City can be proud of. Watch the Forest Lake Omnibus CosPlay in MCTV (Mindanao Cable TV) Channel 18.

A bible verse to encourage CosPlayers and those who have artistic talents: “A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men." ( Proverbs 18:16).  Your talent (gift) can open doors of opportunity.
