Today I will be showing life-size art objects and paintings shared to me by Zamboangueňa international artist Amihan Jumalon. She was at Singapore Art Stage, Singapore last week for the opening of the Monumental Art Exhibit wherein her brother, popular artist Winner Jumalon, was one of the 3 featured Asian artists in this international art event.

I have high regards for Singapore. It is not only a highly industrialized country; its government overwhelmingly supports their local even international artists around Asia. Studies have proven that the love of arts and culture brings out the best in people. Even if we don’t paint nor do art work, when we appreciate work of arts, it brings serenity and peace in ourselves. That is one of the reasons why psychologists recommend that we hang paintings in our home or offices. They somehow relax us and inspire us to love the colors of life. And this is what is happening in Singapore – peaceful and alive with the colors of life.

And I hope our local government can do the same. Sponsor art events and exhibits. Next month will be Art Month and I wonder what will be the art activities in Zamboanga City. The National Art Museum inside Fort Pilar is always a good venue for our artists. ADZU Peninsula Art Gallery is very supportive and opens its door to the public for free.Visit it.

I love to hear someday that Asia’s Latin City will be attracting tourists because of our art museums and art work.  Nothings beats the vibrant colors of Mindanao.

By the way, I love to hear the drum beats of the Badjao in Paseo del Mar. They use improvised tin and plastic cans to create music with distinct sound pleasant to the ears. I hope a local musician can arrange their musical beat and composed formal lyrics for them. They can assemble a cultural show instead diving in the sea water for a few coins.  But some people are amused, entertained and having fun seeing poor Badjao divers “entertaining them”. I am not.
