The balloon making business has been there when By Gems Party Kingdom (BGPK) entered into it ten (10) years ago with a twist. People simply bought balloons then for special occasions and hang it in the walls or stick it in chairs, ground or being used as stage décor.  It was not even acceptable to use balloons for weddings. And balloons in funeral ceremony? Nah. No way.

The main target was children. Expect kids to smile widely when they get hold of a balloon in a party. And before, adults only ask for balloons for the kids at home, and not as a take home souvenir.

But in 2002, GPK style balloonist Gemma Anunque (now Covarrubias) somehow influenced the love and admiration for balloons by adults and children. Fresh from Manila where she attended a balloon decoration seminar, she introduced new concepts and innovative ideas of balloon decorations in Zamboanga City. She revealed that she got into this business after a friend, a business consultant, encouraged her to explore and expand the local balloon market. He also suggested the name By Gems meaning balloons made by Gemma.

Her beau then Engr. Fred Covarrubias, now her husband and BGPK CEO, gave his full support and helped grew the company. It was not an easy “fly up to the sky” (progress) for BYPK, he confided. The BGPK store was twice robbed and had several difficulties with customers. But persistence and faith in God is what keeping BGPK flying high until today. Together they discovered new ways to make their customers happy as well as their employees.

And everyday BGPK is mastering how to dress up any event with balloons, especially big ones, with the very conservative to the super contemporary style. They can magically change the visual outlook of a space; creating focal points to make a room larger or smaller.  They can also create a balloon sculpture or a huge balloon display in a fraction of time.

Today you can see colorful, amazing, and astounding balloon decors in different occasions mostly set up by BGPK in Zamboanga City, Basilan, Jolo, Ipil, Sibugay and as far as Cagayan de Oro City. From birthday to christening, it has successfully invaded church aisle and altars creating oohhhs and wows from the guests. You can see now smiling adults carrying BGPK sculpture balloons saying it’s for home décor or to spruce up their office.

And, yeah, white or black balloons are now being used in funeral. BGPK Halloween balloons are also a hit during All Souls and All Saint’s Day. BGPK balloons are used also for ceremonial “cutting” (bursting) of balloons during opening of business events. When you are impressed and happy with the balloon decorations, it must be by By Gems, they say.

BGPK has also diversified to other essential event needs for the convenience of their customer. They can provide party hosts, clowns, ventriloquist, magicians, mascots, give-aways, ice cream, hot dog and cotton carts. They are mixed, packaged and adjusted to fit the customer’s budget.

As a thanksgiving, BGPK has been supporting different charities and foundations with humanitarian advocacies. And presently BGPK supports school children from Culianan Elementary School as By Gems scholars by providing financial and school needs. They even conducted a balloon making seminar to help people establish their own balloon business in their own barangay.

This is what really makes BGPK management and staff truly happy – share happiness.
