The first “Philhealth Mindanao Run :The Mindanao Run for Hope” across six major cities of Mindanao last February 5 was a success. Zamboanga City joined Davao, Butuan, Cagayan de oro, Koronadal, and Marawi in rallying the Mindanawons to raise funds for  Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) Children's Cancer Center and Blood Diseases Unit (Kids of Hope) based in Davao City.
SPMC is the largest tertiary public hospital in Mindanao and it is only the facility which can deliver multidisciplinary care for children with cancer especially the underprivileged. The Run for Hope was part of this year's PhilHealth 17th anniversary celebration themed “Sa PhilHealth, Pinalawak na Benepisyo...Garantisado!”
The Zamboanga Run started and ended at Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Grandstand with prizes to the top runners. Fun was added with the presence of By Gems Party Kingdom robots and balloon decorations.
