The opening preview of the 6th Solo Artshow of famous international visual artist Rameer Tawasil entitled “Melodia” at the Garden Orchid Hotel last February 26, 2012, coordinated by Zamboanga Tourism Office was a success. It was highly praised by Spain Ambassador to the Philippines Jorge Domecq and his lovely wife Sra. Rose Rufino Domecq. They were here as our special guest of the 75th Charter Day of Dia De Zamboanga Celebration last month.
Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat proudly introduced Tawasil as one of the best talents of Asia’s Latin City in the art industry. The other guests present were Film Development Council of the Philippines Chairman Briccio Santos and his friendly wife Peachy, movie and TV actor John Arcilla. They also raved of the intricate and master strokes of Tawasil.
These Tawasil’s paintings will have its grand exhibit sometime this March 2012 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It will be in collaboration with one of the famous Malaysia's musician-artist, singer, composer, managing director and producer Julfekar Ahmad Shah.
Tawasil is best known for using bright, strong, and bold colors in his paintings. The foundation of his art is "okkil” (in Tausug; “okir” in Maranao), a design form indigenous to the Muslim groups in Mindanao as seen in their woodcarvings, brassware, and textiles, among others. He has been involved in more than 40 art group shows here and abroad. His local exhibitions have been held at the main gallery of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Vargas Museum in the University of the Philippines, National Commission for Culture and the Arts Gallery, Metropolitan Museum of Manila, and various private galleries.
A recipient of Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Award, Tawasil also received the Zamboanga Hermosa Recognition Award, Culture and the Arts Category, awarded by the late Congresswoman and Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Clara L. Lobregat in 2003. In 2006 he was given the Peace Citation Award by the Peace Advocates Zamboanga for his rendition of the "peace dove" logo which has become a peace campaign symbol locally and globally and has been included in the international collection of peace doves.  He organizes art shows and directs musical concerts on his advocacy on peace and the environment. He also conducts art workshops on recycled and environmental art.
Presently, aside from being an artist, Tawasil is also Design Consultant for Region 9 of the Design Center of the Philippines Manila. His masterpieces adorn galleries in London and Kuching, Malaysia and private collections in Germany, Korea, the U.S., and the Philippines. He said that it is the people that surround him are the sources of his art inspiration.
