Peace is an essential component of our society if we want to live a prosperous life, attract tourist in our region, and encourage more people to invest in business and stay here rather than contemplate of moving out/investing in other places.

We thank the Peace Advocate Zamboanga (PAZ) and the the Inter-Religious Solidarity Movement for Peace (IRSMP) for their strong advocacy of culture of peace in Southern Philippines. Today, PAZ will lead the celebration of Mindanao Peace Week through Presidential Proclamation # 127 S. 2001. This event enjoins all schools, government entities, private institutions, NGO’s, parishes, church-based organization, civil society groups, urban poor communities and other organizations to participate in peace related activities. It a whole week celebration, from November 25 to December 1, enjoining people of all ages, cultures and faiths to embrace peace not only in their hearts but do them in actions as well.

Executive Secretary Sr. Emma Delgado said the Week will kick off with a grand opening day parade in which thousands of youths, professionals, civil society members, urban poor delegations, government employees and others are expected to participate.  The parade will originate from Pettit Barracks and wind up at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex, where a program will take place.

There are also other activities scheduled before and after the Week.  A complete calendar of activities is posted in the website www.zabida.com.ph.

PAZ is headed by its president, Fr. Angel Calvo, who is also the R. Catholic convenor in the IRSMP.  The other IRSMP convenors are Prof. Ali Yacub for the Muslim community and Rev. Paul Ersando for the evangelicals. The IRSMP is an interfaith group which has been working for social peace in Zamboanga and Mindanao.
