If the people of Zamboanga City including the visitors who stroll along Cawa-Cawa Boulevard stop littering in this area and instead dispose their garbage properly, this place can be one of the major attractions of our city. It will be more fun to swim, take fun pictures, play fun in the sand, and have fun time with family and friends here.

But until strict disciplinary actions will be imposed against violators who throw their garbage there, expect the Cawa-Cawa Clean Drive of District-2 City Councilor VP Elago will go in vain. Nevertheless, kudos to Councilor VP, he never lost his determination to resurrect the glory of Cawa-Cawa that started three Saturdays ago.

Councilor VP even passed a resolution in the City Council calling the attention of the local police to strictly implement the law against violators. He knows that no matter how much cleaning the volunteers will do, many undisciplined residents will still be mindless in the disposal of their garbage.

On the second Saturday of the clean-up drive, a big group from the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) helped cleaned the beach of Cawa-Cawa. It coincided with the church’s National Socio Civic Day. PCG is willing to enter into a partnership in this effort.

And last Saturday, more volunteers came and sacrificed under the heat of the scorching sun to help revive the lost glory of this beach in despair. Good residents of San Jose, Cawa-Cawa headed by Kagawad Miguel helped. Councilor VP was even inspired when he saw 3 street kids volunteered and joine in the clean-up. He said to himself, there is hope for Cawa-Cawa.

This noble program is being supported by Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat in this endeavor, the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources. (OCENR), General Service Office (GSO), and Sanguniang Kabataan (SK).

Join them this Saturday again and have fun!
