This was one of the core message shared yesterday at the opening of the 2012 ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Roadshow. One does not need to work in another country and earn high. Right here in Zamboanga City, people can work in companies that can pay them as high as P150,000 per month, have fun and go home every day to their families.

This is the brighter future projected by the ICT speakers to the almost 500 audience composed of the business sectors, academe institutions, and government agencies at the Grand Astoria Hotel. DOST Executive Director Alejandro Melchor III encouraged everyone to help build the IT-BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) industry.  He said BPO locators will just come here if we have the qualified manpower. They offer careers from voice (contact/call centers) to non-voice in the field of health care information, animation creation, game development, human resources, finance, accounting and management outsourcing to IT and engineering resources. It’s a multi-billion industry that Melchor believes Zamboanga City can have.

The audiences as well as the speakers were elated when Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat pledged the full support of his administration to this industry.  IT-BPO offers careers with “virtual employers” who are willing to pay Filipinos salaries in dollar rates. Aside from providing high paying jobs and not sacrificing working abroad or in other places, it can open business opportunities for local business people and attract foreign investors to our city.
The roadshow opened with a trade exhibit on the side which was participated by local business establishments that are supportive of this event endeavor.
