Fun Run has become a trend today not only for health buffs but it has  also become a more meaningful event for the good cause it carries. There are beneficiaries who become the recipients of the funds raised in fun run.  I guess it should be named also as fund run.

Around the world, almost every key city has fun runs every weekend. In the Philippines, Metropolitan Manila, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and other cities have fun run every Saturday or Sunday by different groups.  Zamboanga City is not lagging behind. We do have it too now and then.

Philhealth, our country’s prime health provider, is joining the band wagon of fun run. Next year, it will sponsor a nationwide fun run involving all its regional offices on February 17, 2013. Entitled, “PhilHealth Run 2013; Run For Mother and Child Protection,” it will raise funds for the health programs of mothers and children nationwide.  As early as last month, the registration for it started to drum up more participants and make it the biggest number of participants in a joined fun run event.

In Zamboanga City, Region 9 Philhealth Regional Office begun its registration last November 17, 2012. The national fund raised will go to the Philippine Children’s Medical Center- Cancer Ward in Quezon City but portion of it will go too to the Pediatric Oncology Unit of Zamboanga City Medical Center.

The registration was held at its main office and at the newly inaugurated PhilHealth Express Booth at the Yubenco Starmall in Putik. Throngs of people registered as early as 8 am with the first 20 receiving gifts.

According to Philhealth Run Lead Coordinator Maria Anna L. San Luis, the event has five race categories to cater all kinds of runners. There’s the 3-km. run for kids and adults. Those who are willing to extend an extra mile may opt for the longer 5, 10, and 18-km. categories.

The registration fees are Php250.00 for the 3 km. and kiddie category, Php300.00 for the 5-km. category, Php350.00 for the 10 km. category, and Php450.00 for the 18 km category.  There is a discount of Php 50 if one registers before December 31, 2012. The 20% discount applies for Senior Citizens.

Fees are inclusive of a singlet, a race bib, race map, raffle ticket, finisher’s certificate and goodies from private sponsors.Cash prizes both for female and male runners, medals, certificate and gift packs await the 1st to 3rd Placers in all race categories.

Philhealth raraahs it’s more fun to run with a noble cause.
