Normally the easiest and fastest way for a company to do a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) program is to turn over a donation to community in a simple ceremony.  After it’s done pack up time.

But this is not the case with the CSR program of Therapharma’s Alaxan FR Court of Inspiration. This remarkable drug company is building basketball courts in select barangays nationwide with popular basketball players as special guests. Their presence creates a lasting positive impact together with the turn-over ceremony.

Known as the 6 famous PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) Legends, Alvin Patrimonio,  Jojo Lastimosa,  Benjie Paras, Ronnie Magsanoc, Johnny Abarrientos, and Jerry Codiñera are not just  there to cut the ceremonial ribbon, play cutie, shake hands, and take pictures with the only who’s who in the area. They mingle around with the common people, no bully bodyguards around them, and allow anybody to take their pictures with them. No superstar complex.

Last Saturday, December 8, I personally witnessed how the Alaxan FR’s Court of Inspiration even created hope, confidence, and faith to the residents of Barangay Putik of Zamboanga .   Except for Cordinera (who was not able to make it due to a prior engagement), Patrimonio, Lastimosa, Paras, Magsanoc, and Abarrientos conducted a brief basketball clinic with young hopefuls, gave inspirational messages that touched the hearts of the people, and had a friendly game with local players to the delight of everybody present. They even left their hand marks in the concrete cement beside the court as their memento that they came.

Putik Barangay Kaptain Gerry Perez was grateful that his barangay was among the chosen places for this laudable project of Alaxan FR. I learned that Alaxan FR donated the construction materials while the construction work was done by volunteer residents under the watch of Kap Perez and his Kagawads.  It was built with a team community effort.

This project is line with Alaxan FR's campaign, “Ang Galing Mo!,” which honors people who have worked hard for their own communities. It stems from Alaxan FR’s advocacy of changing the negative perception of body pain (hard work), transforming it into a source of one’s pride (a concrete outcome), and inspiring people to push themselves to greatness. Sharing in this advocacy, the PBA Legends believe that pain should be treated as a badge of honor -- a testament to the hard work required for success.

Putik residents will cherish this day as they met the friendliest and nicest big-time basketball idols that brought them happiness and big smiles. What was more commendable about the event, it upsurge the love and high respect for basketball game. Thanks to the PBA Legends.

The other areas where Alaxan FR’s Courts of Inspiration have been constructed already are in Csgayan de Oro, Tacloban, Cebu, Iloilo, Dumaguete, Butuan, Bacolod, Davao and Sarangani.  Zamboanga City was their last leg this year.

Ang Galing Mo, Alaxan FR! (You’re Great, Alaxan FR!).  Indeed there is gain in life after the pain one goes through.
