Spearheaded by Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Zamboanga City joined the successful nationwide fun run, Run for 10, last January 13, 2012 with participants coming from different sectors of our society. This is a fund raising campaign of the GROUP, TEN Moves!, that encourages everyone to help build classrooms for Filipino schoolchildren nationwide. It aims to raise enough resources to build 10,000 classrooms in public schools all over the Philippines. The main strategy is to get 2 million people to donate P10 per day for 10 months. That will be P300 per month or P3,000 for the entire 10 months.

Why 10,000 classrooms?

According to the Department of Education, the total shortage today is 66,800 classrooms. The department’s budget and the budget from local government units can cover about 56,000. DepEd has asked the private sector and ordinary citizens to help in building the remaining 10,000 classrooms.

Because of the huge target and the massive mobilization that this will entail, this public fundraising campaign requires mobilizing a large number of organizations and people around the country. It is expected to be supported widely by Filipinos and even non-Filipinos working together to address an urgent problem of the country. Thus, the name TEN Moves! also means “TheEntire Nation Moves!”

TEN Moves! is part of Bayanihang Pampaaralan of the 57-75 Education Reform Movement, an alliance of the following organizations: Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED),Eugenia Apostol Foundation (formerly Foundation for Worldwide People Power), League of Corporate Foundations (LCF), Philippine Business for Education (PBEd), Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), and Synergeia Foundation.

Zamboanga City joined this noble campaign simultaneously with other cities like Makati, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Dipolog, Dumaguete, Legazpi, Pampanga, Tarlac. It was supported locally by the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation, Department of Education-Region 9, Smart Communication, Samsung Concept Store in Mindpro, and Budgetwise. The beneficiary for the Zamboanga leg of Run for 10 is Monte Real, Patalon's LIFT A SCHOOL Project.
