Be Happy. These are the buzz words for me this 2013. Last year, it was Say No without being rude. It was either Yes or No. No compromise. If I can’t do or make it, I explain why first and say No without really being apologetic and feel bad. In this way, I don’t frustrate people and I don’t jeopardize my integrity. It was also good for my health. I have more time to rest and not being seen everywhere (ok, I am not that young anymore). I stay happy. People around me stay happy.

As a media columnist too, you get a lot of invitations and it is an honor to be invited. In my early media days, I would really squeeze my schedule “to be present as I felt it was a privilege to be there, interview people and get the news first hand”. Today, when I receive an invitation and I can’t make it, I call or text back to thank the sender and say I could not make it. This way I show my appreciation. It might “frustrate” the sender but deep inside I know he or she is happy that I acknowledge his or her invitation.

And, yeah, this is the most important invitation of all – the wedding invitation. I hope people will appreciate the preparations of the wed-to-be couple. Part of the wedding dilemma is the counting of guests and whom to invite. If I can’t make it, I ask my wife to send our wedding gift in advance and inform the couple we can’t make it. That way, we help lessen their wedding stress and they will not feel exasperated that we didn’t appear on the most important day of their lives. We make them happy.

Be happy. There are ups and downs in life. But I choose to be happy whatever the circumstances are for I am a child of God. I claim this from the Bible John 1:12 “for those who believed and accepted Him, He gave them the right to become children of God”.

There are ups and downs in life. For me, whatever stage we are in life now, we have the choice to be happy. And I am not saying this because I am have to pretend, for I have learned to be accept that God has a wonderful plan for my life. I know what it is to be happy and I know what it is to be sad.

I have learned the secret of being happy always in all situations. Whether living in plenty or in want, this is what I am happy about from Hebrews 13:5, God said, “Never will I leave you; Never will I forsake you”.

Thank you, Lord, for another year of my happy life.
