Thanks to the efforts of the Rotary Club of Zamboanga City (RCZC) Pres. Sixto “Jun” Kwan and his officers and members, around 85 public elementary schools of Zamboanga City received 5,000 plus educational books from The Asia Foundation last January 14 at the gymnasium of Western Mindanao State University. The donated books are hard bound printed in good quality papers containing colorful pictures and topics that are appealing to kids.

Dubbed as “Libreng Libro Para Sa Lahat Program,” the event officially launched the partnership of this club with The Asia Foundation, an NGO that helps promote progress and peace around Asia through education and literacy. Zamboanga City is very fortunate to be chosen as one of the recipients of the foundation’s Asian program Book For Asia.

Big kudos to RCZC for this will be a continuing partnership with The Asia Foundation (this means more coming educational books for different educational institutions in Zamboanga City). This was confirmed by The Asia Foundation’s Deputy Country Representative Ky D. Johnson and Books for Asia Director Efren N. Balajadia.

The event was made more meaningful with 2009 CNN of the Year and 2010 Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines (TOYM) Efren Peñaflorida Jr. as the inspirational message. He encouraged the audience to discover the hero within themselves regardless their status in life, age and culture.

Special guest was Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat. He was invited in this affair because he is admired for making education as one of his administration main priorities. Zamboanga City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation also supported this event since educated people means better business atmosphere.
