I am proud to share to Pep Talk readers and to all Zamboangueños that one of its active youth leaders, Aldrin Abdurahim, will undergo an intensive 21-day Training and Dialogue Programme for Young Leaders under the course Post War Reconstruction and Peace Building in Japan. The 25-year old Abdurahim will represent Zamboanga City together with 165 other young leaders from different parts of the Philippines.

Presently, the 1st-year law student of Western Mindanao State University Abdurahim is the Interreligious Dialogue Coordinator of Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) and the Secretary of the Interreligious Solidarity Movement for Peace (IRSMP). He is very active in different youth peace programs in Mindanao.

Last December 2010, Abdurahim represented PAZ where its peace program was lauded as one of the finalists in the coveted Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) 2010. The awarding was held in Malacañang Palace where Philippine President Benigno Aquino Jr. personally handed the awards. Abdurahim was one of the representatives of our country in the Philippine Youth Leadership Program held at Northern Illinois University, Chicago, United States of America last 2009. Moreover, he had been active in the networks of Generation Peace through the Gaston Ortigas Peace Institute and Bridging leaders: Tuloy-Tulay with the Asian Institute of Management.

In Japan, he will undergo the program sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) that started last January 21 until February 09, 2011. JICA is a governmental organization whose main function is to execute Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) to developing countries to support self-help efforts that will lead to economic progress and a better life for the people of those countries. Thus, this includes our own country-the Philippines.

The training and dialogue program have been offered to the government of the Philippines based on the government’s need for social and economic development of the country. At the end of the training, participants are expected to utilize the results for the country. It had been one of the fundamentals of JICA’s technical operation activities for developing countries.

The objectives of the program include contributing to the development of human resources to address or solve targeted problems in developing countries and contribute to the promotion of mutual understanding and friendship.

Also, JICA would like the participants to learn more about JAPAN and cultivate friendship with its people as well as with other participants. Through the program, they also believe that mutual understanding will be developed among different countries.

The Post War Reconstruction and Peace-Building Course will be helpful to the line of work that Abdurahim is doing. Being an IRD Coordinator where peace and interfaith dialogue is of great importance, learning’s from the course will really strengthen the advocacy of PAZ as an organization for peace that will rebound to Zamboanga City and its people.

(Isaiah 32:17). “The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever.”
