If you happen to be in Manila weekends of June 1 up to the 15th, you might like to join our country’s attempt to break the world record for the world’s longest peace mural at along the long 3,770 meters (3.77 kilometers) stretch of EDSA (Epifanio de los Santos Avenue). If this happens, Edsa Wall of Peace will have the honor also to be the longest peace of wall in Asia. For now, Chile‘s Wall for Peace holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest peace mural in the world.

Initiated by the Asia America initiative (AAI) in coordination with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Dolphins Love for Freedom Movement, and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the “Lakbay Para sa Kapayapaan sa EDSA” (A Journey of Peace in Edsa) aims to stir the heart of every Filipino to be a part of the peace-building process and bring peace into the Filipino consciousness. It started last May 26 with a couple from Zamboanga City and their son joining a thousand other volunteers who joined in the first mural weekend of this activity. This will be followed with weekend paintings on June 1, 8, and 15.

Participants or would be wall painters will have the sense of ownership in peace building. The finished painted wall of peace will have a psychological effect to the millions of passersby and commuters along EDSA whatever may be their education, religion, ethnicity and cultural backgrounds. It will create peace in their minds and well-beings.

Major sponsors are Davies Paint Philippines and Universal Paints as the major paint suppliers, Manila Water, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Belle de Jour, iVolunteer Philippines, and the Gawad Kalinga Center for Social Innovation (GK-CSI).

If you are interested and want to volunteer tag along your organizatios, families or friends, contact any of the groups above, or visit the website of www.ivolunteer.net.ph (the Philippines' first volunteerism portal).  Tomorrow, June 1, the Journey of Peace in EDSA will assemble at the People Power Monument EDSA Quezon City at 6am.
