As the partner of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) of Zamboanga led by LCDR Rose Felix Diu, PCGA Chief of Staff/Acting Squadron Director of the 304th Squadron, supported the celebration of the “Day of the Filipino Seafarer” last June 25, 2013. A short program after a motorcade around the city was held at the MARINA Office in Zamboanga Port Area.

Philippine President Benigno Aquino III has declared June 25 of every year as the Day of the Filipino Seafarer in recognition of the seafarers’ contribution to the country’s national development. Under Proclamation 183, it gives respect and gratitude to the Filipino seafarers who have demonstrated best traits of the Filipino in the global maritime community. Pres. Aquino directed all maritime agencies and government agencies including government-owned and controlled corporations as well as private groups to support the commemoration of the event.

PCGA was organized to assist the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in the promotion of safety of life and property at sea according to PCGA 304th Squadron Director Diu. She added it is also helping in the preservation of the marine environment and its resources as well in the conduct of maritime search and rescue, and maintenance of  aids to coastal navigation. PCGA also conducts maritime community relations like civic action, and participates in National Service Training Program, youth development, recreational safety and other related activities.

Last year, PCGA 304th Squadron conducted very laudable projects like medical-dental outreach in Ayala and Curuan;  coastal clean up at Barangay Cawa-Cawa; participated in Pier  Customers  Assistance during  All Saints Day at Terminal 2; and  donated P20,000.00 for the flash flood victims of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City.
