I am not really fond of Tagalog tele-serye –same plots with characters crying, scheming, and shouting almost every prime time evening. I guess it attracts televiewers who sympathize with “martyrs” who get back and vengeance at the end of the story. But it does make a difference, though, when a tele-serye has good set of actors and actresses in it. They can elevate simple and same plot stories with good acting.

I don’t know if the new tele-serye of ABS-CBN, “Muling Buksan Ang Puso”, with blockbusters stars will make high ratings. I admit watching it on its initial week episode last week– for one reason only Joaquin “Red” Reyes. He played the young Echong Dee one of the tele-serye leading men.

Red was good and acted as if he is a veteran actor or came from a lineage of showbiz family  at Muli. He made me proud for he brings good news about Zamboanga City. And there are more good stories about him in this Pep Talk column.

Red is the good-looking 12 year-old son of Michelle Saavedra from Zamboanga City. She is married to Toto Reyes of Manila, both working in Quezon City, and they have two good-looking kids, only young son, Joaquin, and their pretty elder daughter Bethina.

Michelle said it was not a walk in the park to get commercial for Joaquin at first since they are many other good-looking kids in Manila. Neither entering showbiz, it took them a lot of auditions and VTRs to pass. But Michelle is thankful that Red stood out with his acting plus his expressive eyes, sympathetic, sincere and smiling face helped him to be chosen.

Red is being handled by Admate Agency that handles the commercial careers of Enrique Gil, Sam Pinto, the late Aj Perez, and other showbiz stars. For the meantime, Michelle is his manager (and I joked to her, is the protective stage mother , tee hee).

Red has 14 commercials, 1 indie “Palo-Palo” movie (to be shown), and appeared in 6 TV shows under his tag. Being photogenic and charming, he has also walked on the fashion ramp for boy’s apparels (SM Kids Fashion). His first commercial is Milo that went on air last March 2011, and he is presently the Ambassador of Tang Juice promoting an environmental program Project Recyclass. He did commercial for Jollibee, Coke, Del Monte, Bibbo Sausage, Amigo Spaghetti, Metro Bank, Nestle, and Globe. He can be seen in print poster of Festival Mall,Del Monte, Amigo, and Metro Bank.

Initially, Red wanted only to see himself in TV but now he has love acting, and wants to host a show and be a Director someday. Visit his Facebook account Red Mood to more about him.
