My Mom, DZT Social Whirl Tita Corteza, is still in euphoria and grateful after their golden wedding blessing and my Dad’s 74th birthday last June 26, 2013. She is happy that her dream wedding came true after 50 years and after two wedding ceremonies.

50 years ago – my parents married twice. First, January, by civil ceremony in Quezon City and followed a year later with a church wedding in December when my grandmother Lola Pipang (Mom’s mother) advised her to have a church blessing. The holy matrimony was held in Iloilo City (where I was born as the second child) and was witnessed by their close “barkada” only. Both weddings were simple, no grand celebrations, no big wedding cakes, no photo albums, and no wedding entourage.

Since my two US based siblings will be home this year, my family decided to have a family reunion and celebrate their golden wedding all together as one by December. But Mom could not wait anymore and decided to have a simple golden wedding thanksgiving in the middle of their golden year.  What was planned originally as a church blessing of their wedding turned into a mini-golden ceremony with all the wedding trimmings in Dad’s birthday.  We will still proceed with their grand golden wedding in a grand family reunion as planned.

Here are some precious golden moments of that memorable day taken by Mom’s favorite photographer Tanny Tolentino. I am doing this to honor my parents and to encourage Pep Talk readers to do the same no matter how “pasaway” parents (who insists to do things their way) can be in their golden age.

Thank you, Lord, for our golden parents.
