With an estimate participants of 9,000 plus, the 4th Rotary Fun Run Stop TB 2013 held last August 18 was a victory feat of advocacy against the dreaded TB (tuberculosis) disease. In coordination with the Zamboanga Hermosa TB Council, this annual fun run event is a joint effort of all Rotary Clubs in Zamboanga City in celebration of the August Lung Month. Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar gave full support to it as health is one her government priority programs.

Among those who participated came from Western Mindanao State University spearheaded by university president Dr. Milabel Ho, Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST), Department of Health, the strong force of City Health  Office of Dr. Rodel Agbulos, Southern City Colleges, STI College Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Red Cross of Dr. Vic Liozo, and Philippine National Police. They ran from Paseo del Mar to Zamboanga City Coliseum.

This year’s theme is “Tuldukan ang TB. Ikalat ang Tamang Impormasyon, Hindi and Diskrimasyon” aims to stop the spread of TB by telling the general public that TB is a curable disease and that TB medical treatment is free in government institutions. In Zamboanga City, TB patients whether rich or poor can avail of free consultations and complete medications at Zamboanga Medical Center.

An exciting short program at the coliseum followed which included special dance numbers from STI College, SCC, and ZSCMST, raffle draws of 2 Sharp TV sets and 3 Samsung cellphones. A total amount of P50,000 was raised from the raffle tickets that cost only P10 per ticket.  Major supporters of this laudable event were Budgetwise, Sharp, and Samsung. Psalm 103:2-5. “Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; Who pardons all your iniquities; Who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from the pit; Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion; Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.”
