I am out of town right now but could not help to compare our beloved Zamboanga City to where I am right now in terms of progress, crime rates, and power crisis. But I am confident with the coming peace summit being coordinated by Mayor Beng Salazar with all sectors, solutions are near. It just saddened me that our city is being compared how the criminals and offenders in Davao City are being pursue. Will this work here? Or will it create a Will, Wild West scenarios where shooting between the good and the bad will be out in the open?

Blackout? I am in the province of my Dad, Iloilo, and we are enjoying 24 hours electricity. There are many constructions everywhere. Roads are being widened. It is being predicted Iloilo City will be the next big place of investment in the Philippines after Cebu and Davao. Let me find out later how much is the electricity rates and how’s the coal power is doing here.

But despite the peace and power crisis, there is one sunshine industry rising up in Zamboanga City that can usher foreign investments and hundreds of jobs 24/7 – the Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO).  Thanks to the endeavors of the Zamboanga ICT Council, Department of Science and Technology Region IX (DOST-IX), DOST- Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO), and the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP), the ICT-BPO is taking off ground here.  It is supported also by Zamboanga City Council.

The predicted target revenue of US$ 16 Billion for 2013 worldwide in this field is a robust business to tap into. More than 700,000 jobs be can be generated.  The mobile game development training is only part of the big picture that can bring in high-paying jobs for Zamboangueños. Software development programs and call centers will bring dollars.  For now, the challenges for Zamboangueños is to equip themselves with the right skills to work in the ICT-BPO industry. Zamboanga ICT Council will be the conduit of the ICT-BPO training and connections.

With the success of the mobile game development training, other related industries, such as HIMOAP (Health Information Management Outsourcing Association of the Philippines) and the Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPI),  have expressed their interest in conducting similar training in our city thru the Zamboanga ICT Council.

Now, the sun will rise faster in the ICT-BPO of Zamboanga City, if there will peace and constants power of energy in our city.
