Last October 24, I was a witness to the turn-over of P250,000 cash donation from the fun run event organized by Mindanao State University (MSU) Tawi-Tawi Alumni Association to the City Government of Zamboanga at the Office of the City Mayor. It was received by City Administrator Antonio Orendain in behalf of City Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar who was in Manila and of Zamboanga City Crisis Management Committee.

The cash cheque was handed by MSU Chancellor Atty. Lorenzo Regellana Reyes,  MSUAA (Alumni Association) Tawi-Tawi Chapter President Engr. Rosendo Reyes, VP Romeo Taup, BOD Faizal Nahul, Ayda Amilbangsa Reyes and Director for Alumni Relations Basil Sali.

The big amount was raised from the "Run for Zamboanga: Dagan Kalna' Sambuwangan Fun Run" held last October 6, 2013 in Tawi-Tawi and was the first such event was held in this province. Around 1,700 runners ran from MSU Prep High to Bongao Port that ended at the Provincial Capitol. It was participated by 23 national line agencies, 5 local government units, 4 academic institutions, 4 non-government organizations, 14 civil society organizations, 9 private institutions, 4 local radio stations, and Tawi-Tawi Congressional Office.

In my Pep Talk with Chancellor Reyes, I learned that MSU Tawi-Tawi is one of the biggest populated universities in our country with 20,000 enrolled students and most of them are scholars. The campus is bigger than UP Diliman with more than 100 hectares of land.

Tawi-Tawi is one of the most peaceful serene provinces in Southern Philippines and has wonderful crystal clear blue beaches great for swimming and scuba diving. Foreigners and local tourists can roam around the town with no fear. Despite the diversities in religion and culture, Tawi-Tawi people get along together and  are known to be gentle peace-loving people. Zamboanga City is always a second home for them.
