When Ciudad Medical Zamboanga (CMZ) celebrated its 10th year anniversary last October, it conducted an art contest among its staff to express how the hospital stood during the Zamboanga siege with the theme, “CMZ’s Role in Social Healing.” In the midst of the “so-called war” (a conflict that needs deep and unbiased investigations), CMZ doctors, nurses, and other allied hospital personnel stood tall and went into duty despite the threats in their lives even leaving their own loved ones behind.

Here are the winners and the other art works which the judges had a big challenge to whom to award the top plum (I was one of the judges). It eventually went to Ward Echo the creators of "Juan CMZ". The visual impact as well as the creativity of expression had to blend the message of love, peace, hope, and unity from CMZ as Zamboanga transcends and rises to recovery. All of the art works indeed brought out the dedication of CMZ during the siege  as well delivers a feeling of optimism to the viewers - that despite religion and cultural differences in our city, we can move on as one united Zamboangueños.

The art works are on displayed in the hospital lobby.
