International Muslim NGO reaches out to Yolanda victims PDF Print E-mail

Thanks to international artist Zamboangueño-Tausug Rameer Tawasil, Pep Talk learned about the assistance and help extended by international Muslim Non-Government Organizations (NGO) to Typhoon Yolanda victims in Tacloban, Cebu and Ormoc last November. Rameer voluntarily accompanied them in these devastated areas.

The 3 NGO’s are Global Peace Mission from Malaysia, Deniz Feneri and Besir Dernegi from Turkey. They gave relief goods as a sign of care and love, and message of hope to the affected Filipino people.

Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia is an international relief and development agency, working to alleviate suffering among the world’s poorest and most needy communities, regardless of race, creed, gender, nationality or political inclination. Initiated in September 26, 2001 and led by the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia, GPM is backed by volunteers and relief workers with years of experience in relief efforts. It has extended relief programs to Kashmir, Iran, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Laos, Sudan, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Philippines.

GPM is one of the founding members of Union of NGO’s Of Islamic World (UNIW) based in Istanbul, Turkey. In 2006, GPM has been appointed as the Commissioner of Humanity, Solidarity and Unity of the UNIW which is responsible for designing and implementing Muslim NGO activities. It has played various roles in humanitarian mission around the world, hence, GPM has been appointed too as a member of the OIC Humanitarian Forum (OICHF) by the Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).

Deniz Feneri Association is a welfare and solidarity association based in Turkey. Founded on 1998, it has been reaching out to different parts of the world giving aids without discrimination. It has been honored with the Turkish national Assembly Award of Eminent Services and for Leadership in Social Responsibility in 2005. Besir Bernegi is another international NGO from Turkey giving assistance in places where tragedies and disasters have struck.
