Superb! is one word I can describe about Amir Sali, the Philippines Prince of Beads, who conquered the world of fashion last Monday evening, February 3, at the ballroom of Marriott Hotel Manila. At last, he presented his uniquely Amir Sali collections of formal wear to a crowd of who’s who in Manila top alta sociedad, other fashion designers, showbiz and media personalities. This has been one of the most awaited fashion events in Metro Manila.

I got these pictures in this spread from Amir’s Facebook account and from the website that raved about his first Philippines fashion gala show. Hosted by popular personality and Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist, Tessa Prieto-Valdes, the models sashayed on stage led by actress Shaina Magdayao and Marina Benipayo. Spotted interviewing him after the show was Korina Sanchez whose wedding gown was done by Amir.

Amir is hailed as the Prince of Beads because of the intricate of his bead works on his apparels. I personally saw it how he does it. The dress is like a canvass and like a painter artist, he “paints” the dress with expensive precious stones and gems which he intertwines with lace designs that he personally designed. Clothing materials are from different Europe fashion houses. The end result is one of a kind dress in the world - a combination of Asia and Europe.

Born in Jolo, Sulu, Amir grew up in Zamboanga City, studied fashion in Cebu City , and went to the Middle East where he perfected his ingenuity in fashion designing for many years. He came back to the Philippines and opened his House of Amir at Connecticut, Greenhills, San Juan City only five years ago.

I asked him why did he come back to our country when he has already established his name among the Royal Families and wealthy clients (one Amir gown can cost between Php 500,000 to 1 million or higher). He said, “I want to inspire the Philippine fashion industry by leveling it up on a higher international standard.”  He likes to see foreigners coming to the Philippine shore to have their dress made by a Filipino designer and make Manila as the Fashion Czar of Asia.

A God-fearing man, Amir openly credits his talent to God when asked where  he gets his inspiration. He is also proud to say he is from Mindanao when asked where he is from.  Hair stylist and make-up artist of Manila’s rich and famous, Danny Katalbas, who is also from Zamboanga City, did the hair and make-up of the models. Local fashion designer Nilo Lacson who flew to Manila shared that the high-heeled and well-dressed audience  gave Amir a standing ovation and cloud claps.

Don’t worry – Amir Sali said he will bring his fashion show to Zamboanga City. Yehey! More pictures from Amir Sali official photographers later.
