13-year old Zamboangueña golfer Ashia Nocum brought honor to our city again when she qualified to play in the first leg of the 2014 ICTSI Ladies Philippine Golf Tour slated this year. This is the biggest ladies golf tournament in the Philippines participated by professional lady golfers from Asian countries.

Ashia was the youngest player and played against older and more experienced professional lady golfers during the ICTSI Ladies Philippine Golf Tour Qualifying School at Eagle Ridge’s Aoki course in Cavite held last February 14.  She made it to the top 8 of qualified players who will compete with one another in the ICTSI golf tournament. Thus, Ashia, will join the country’s leading ladies pro in the eight-leg ICTSI LPGT that will kickoff on April 16-18, the ICTSI Orchard Golf Ladies Classic, at the Orchard Golf and Country Club’s Player’s Course in Cavite.

ICTSI (International Container Terminal Services, Inc.), the long-time backer of Philippine golf, has added three more legs this year with new courses tapped to provide a different kind of challenge for the field. Wack Wack will host the second leg on May 13-15 for the ICTSI Wack Wack Ladies Invitational before action shifts to the challenging Tagaytay Highlands for the ICTSI Tagaytay Highlands Challenge on July 24-26.

The other legs are the ICTSI Mt. Malarayat Ladies Classic on Aug. 13-15, ICTSI Riviera Ladies Invitational on Sept. 10-12, ICTSI Calatagan Ladies Classic on Sept. 17-19, ICTSI Valley Golf Ladies Challenge on Oct. 14-16, and the ICTSI Manila Southwoods Ladies Challenge on Nov. 5-7.

This event is being managed by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments Inc. (PGTI), a sports management and promotions company. PGTI is the official organizer of the Philippine Golf Tour (PGT), the country’s pro golf league and one of Asia’s leading golfing circuits.

The young Nocum is the youngest daughter of Manila journalist and legal PR consultant Armand and his business woman wife Ann Sahi-Nocum. The Nocum Family is base in Manila. Ashia has been playing golf since she was six years old and has been competing in different golf events in our country and abroad. Ariza was one of the young golf players of the Philippines in last year US Junior Golf World Championships participated by 1,600 competitors from more than 43 countries around the world.
