STI-Zamboanga student placed 2nd in regional programming competition PDF Print E-mail

STI-College Zamboanga, one of Western Mindanao prime IT (Information technology) premiere educational institutions, continue to reap honor for our city. Their 3rd year BS Computer Science student, Mershalene Hamid, won 2nd place in the STI Regional Competition of Tagisan ng Talino at General Santos City last January 20, 2104.

STI Tagisan ng Talino is an annual academic competition that aims to showcase the academic quality of STI students nationwide. The competition recognizes STI students’ knowledge, skills and creativity in various disciplines and their applications, computer programming, web site development, public speaking, communication and writing skills.

Hamid competed against 6 STI Mindanao based schools (STI Davao, STI General Santos, STI Cotabato, STI Tacurong, STI Koronadal, and STI Tagum) in the Into Programming Competition (a programming competition) and was the only lone female contestant.

The programing competition aims to provide Programming/IT students with a keen grasp for ingenuity and resourcefulness - vital attributes that could give them headways during the realization of their IT careers. The contestants solve ICT problems while under time pressure.

According to STI Administrator Norwesa Madriaga, this contest inspires STI students to achieve excellence at par with global standards, at the same time, helps promote create awareness on the value of education for their students. Madriaga is proud of Hamid because she has continued the legacy of STI-Zamboanga to produce topnotch students in this industry.

STI-Zamboanga  graduates are among the in-demand work-force by different sectors. This school has produced graduates working in big multi-national companies here and abroad.
