Suspected Abu Sayyaf gunmen hijacked in Sulu a light fishing boat belonging to the Mega Fishing Corp. based in Zamboanga City  and seized its three crew members.

Abducted were boat captain Renato Panisales, asst. engineer Wennie Ferrer, and quarter master Jonald Ocsimar of Mega 8 Light Boat.

Directorate for Integrated Police Operations (DIPO)-west chief Director Felicisimo Khu said the Mega 8 Light Boat was on fishing venture near Menes Island in Panglima Tahil town, Sulu, when it was highjacked by the suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits around 9:45 p.m. Saturday.

Khu said the Abu Sayyaf bandits have already called the management of the Mega fishing company and started negotiating for the release of the three crew members.

Khu did not however give details concerning the content of the negotiations nor any demand made by the Abu Sayyaf bandits.

He said that Abu Sayyaf bandits and the hostages were “highly mobile” in the areas of Patikul town, Sulu.
