Miss Zamboanga City 2012, ramp model and a nurse by profession Christine Juaton was crowned Mutya ng Mindanao 2014 last September 12 at the Greenleaf Hotel, General Santos City in a grand beautiful ceremony. She bested 17 other beautiful candidates coming from different cities in Mindanao for this coveted beauty title. This beauty pageant aimed to find the most beautiful treasure of Mindanao and is part of the big annual celebration of General Santos Tuna Festival.

She also won the Miss Photogenic award and the Best in Local Costume wherein the costume’s head dress was coincidentally similar to the Mutya ng Mindanao logo picture. Was is a prophetic? It does not matter, actually, as Christine deserves the title as she epitomizes the modern woman of today – intelligent and beautiful full of self-confidence.

“Words cannot describe how overwhelmed I feel right now by all of your support from the beginning until now. We've been through a lot and not we are soaring high! Let's not forget to keep our faith let's continue on praying that I can fulfill my duties and responsibilities as MUTYA NG MINDANAO 2014 and I hope that I can also get your full support in promoting Tourism, Culture, and lost especially Peace and Order here in Mindanao. Let's work hand in hand,” the new Mutya ng Mindanao commented in her Facebook account the following day.

The others winners are (1st runner-up) Miss Mati/ Davao Oriental Arianne Buenviaje, (2nd runner-up) Miss Davao City Maria Theresa Tan, (3rd runner-up) Miss  Kidapawan City Mae Salandanan, and (4th runner-up) Miss Lamitan City, Basilan Yvonne Napao. Yvonne was Miss Zamboanga Red Cross 2012 and a very graceful ballroom dancer who competes in national ballroom contest. We are proud that two beauties of Western Mindanao made it to the top 5 of 2014 Mutya ng Mindanao.
