The Fashion Show of the Fashion Designers Association of Zamboanga (FDAZ) last October 3 was a raving success at the Astoria Regency. It gathered some of the best 16 local fashion designers who mounted their creations to the delight, wow, and thunderous claps of the well-heel audience. Actually, each of the designer participants could already come out with their own fashion show. This is the beginning of making Zamboanga City as the fashion capital of the region someday as visualized by the Zamboanga City Tourism Office.

What is commendable about this event too is the financial limitation of FDAZ didn’t hinder them to mount a fabulous local fashion show like what I have often enjoyed watching in the early ‘80s and ‘90s.  It takes more than a hundred thousand pesos to mount a big fashion show nowadays and FDAZ was only organized recently. But thanks to their sponsors, supporters, and friends it pushed thru.

Kudos to FDAZ president Monching Fernandez for the raving opening salvo of The Fashion Show. He was the first to present his ethnic-inspired gowns made of hablon a locally colorful weaved cloth. His male models also wore his inspired silk long sleeve embroidered formal wear  like what he wore. See Monching’s hablon collection in the spread today. Each of the other fashion collections presented will also be featured by Social Whirl in the succeeding issues.
