Congratulations to the pretty and soft spoken Janncel Tan who passed the nursing board licensure exam recently. She is the daughter of my good friends, community servants Dr. Albert and Dra. Cely Tan. A simple and an impromptu thanksgiving party in her honor was held at the Grand Astoria Lotus Restaurant last Tuesday, August 30, with her close high school classmates and some friends of her parents.

Janncel graduated nursing from St. Paul University Manila. Hopefully she will take medicine too like her parents. Only sister, Joicel, was the joy of the party. She gave a special dance number to the delight of the guests. Mommy Cording, Jancel’s grandmother, is really proud of her. The Tans are originally from Tawi-Tawi and among the most respected families in this Muslim dominated island.

Greetings too to the other nursing graduates from Asia’s Latin City. Kudos to Lorna Paber, Dean of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University College of Nursing, whose nursing students generally performed better than the general national passing rate of the 2011 Philippine nursing board.
