Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) honored its 2011 alumni with a testimonial dinner at the Celebrity Hall of Grand Astoria Hotel last December 11.  The honourees this year’s homecoming are the Golden Jubilarians of Class ’61 and the Silver Jubilarians of Batch ’86. They were handed with certificates and hand with a medallion by WMSU Alumni President Prof.  Mahmor Edding assisted by WMSU Alumni Director Nerissa Mantilla. The formal event was witnessed by the new University President Dr. Luningning Umar.

This is the 92nd homecoming and had the theme “WMSU Alumni: Partners in Excellence”. The alumni came in formal attires and had fun recalling the names of one another. Since the university had a smaller population then, students from different colleges knew each other and became friends.

Among the top honourees were BS Bio ’86 Dr. Said Hassan and BSChem ’86 Engr. George Ledesma of the College of Science and Mathematics. I graduated ahead of them but we all became close as we were active in different campus activities.  Dr. Hassan now is a successful anaesthesiologist and currently the president of the Phil. Society of Anesthesiologists- Western Mindanao Chapter. Ledesma is the plant manager of Zamboanga Carageenan and president of two active local civic organizations – the Industrial Group of Zamboanga and Zamboanga Export. They were given plaques as Most Outstanding Jubilarians.
