2012 is a momentous year for graduates of Zamboanga City. They make us not only make their family happy but make the city proud of them too. Leading in the top of my list is everybody’s favorite police officer – Gen. Mario Yanga of PNP-9. His latest award, Cavalier Award, from his alma mater, Philippine Military Academy, proves that he deserves his promotion.

This is the highest and most prestigious PMA Award given to its alumni. It was given during the 2012 PMA Graduation Ceremony in Baguio City. Though he is not a Zamboangueňo by blood, he loves and protects our city with his dear life. More about him in my next column.

Errvy Gabriel “Gab-Gab” Lauriaga Tan, son of my good friends Jung-Jung and Mercy Tan, will be graduating Cum Laude, BS HRM, at University of Santo Tomas on March 29, 2012.

Another proud product of Asia’s Latin City is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rajan Parmanand – Roshni Parmanand. She graduated as Cum Laude BS Communication Technology from Ateneo de Manila University last March 23. 2012. Both schools are prestigious and known for producing top notch students.

On my family side, my granddaughter Athena Corteza, graduated from Western Mindanao State University High School last March 21, 2012. She is the only daughter of my eldest son Toto and Bebot Corteza. Her second cousin, Phiel Espiritu-Harina, also graduated from Ateneo de Zamboanga High School last March 23. His elder brother, Paul, also passed the stringent exam for aero engineering in Manila. Paul’s dream is to be a pilot someday. Their proud mom, my niece Suzette, is very proud of her two boys.

Together with my son, Dante, we were the special guests of the graduation and thanksgiving party of Aedrick Yanga who graduated Valedictorian from Pilar College. Aedrick is the son of businessman Antonio Yanga and Dr. Emmylou Yanga of CHED-9. Dante is a very close friend to the Yanga Family. He is the barkada of the beautiful Ester Tolosa-Bernardino, Aedrick’s Aunt and Emmylou’s sister, since their college days.

Congrats to Samantha Simbajon, daughter of businessman Al and Myra's Bake House Chief Baker Ivy Inocencio-Simbajon, who graduated kindergarten from Our Lady of Mercy.
To all the 2012 graduates, God’s guidance as you move on to the next stage of your life!
