For the second time around, the Zonta Club of Zamboanga City will have a repeat of its successful ballroom dance fund raising event on November 30, 2012 at the Astoria Plaza, Grand Astoria Hotel. Dubbed “Ballroom Dancing Extravaganza II”, the social affair will support the scholarship and indigence programs of the club. Last year’s ballroom dancing had a live band with the city’s top ballroom dancers as special guests. There will be more surprises this year.

The noble project is spearheaded by current Zonta President Pilar Torres. She will be ably supported by President-Elect PNB Manager Evelyn Balbon and   Vice-President Syra Ong. The other active officers of the club are Recording Secretary Ophelia Gayanilo, Corresponding Secretary Rosella Tan, and Treasurer  Rita Ong.

The present Board of Directors are Dr. Mila Fernandez, Dr. Cely Tan, Dr. Bernie Santiago, and Immediate Past President Rowena Tan. And the club’s new members are Lyn Sy, Jennifer Que, Fatima Bagis III, Cherry Belle Chua, Mary Sharon Ty, Charina San Luis, Bella Tandoc, and Sheila Marie Tan.

Zonta is one of the active multi-awarded all women civic organizations of this city. It is composed of professional and career women who aims to uplift the lives especially their fellow women, children of the street, and indigent communities. It has built the Zonta Ayudahan Multi-Purpose Center in Canelar where socio-civic activities are being held. It continuously support educational scholars and a housing project in Bolong.

Zonta Club, founded in 1919 at New York, is an international organization of professional and business women. It continues to contribute to the improvement of legal leadership, political, economic, educational, health, and professional status of women all over the world. The Zonta word came from the Teton dialect of the native Sioux American language which means honesty and trustworthiness.
