It was a regal and majestic night of beauty and brains last November 19 at the Plaza Astoria of Grand Astoria Hotel when 16 lovely young ladies vied for the coveted title of Miss Southway Square 2012. It was a very tight and close decision for the panel of judges as all the candidates were all beautiful, talented, and intelligent. Like Southway Square Mall, each of the girls shown true beauty, added excitement, brought joy and happiness in this month long pageant search.

Candidate No. 7 Ma. Purita Arquiza, a BS Accountancy student of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, was finally crowned as the first Miss Southway Square 2012. She received a cash prize of P50,000 and a modeling contract. Declared as 1st runner-up was beauteous high school student of Montessori de Zamboanga  Sharmaine dela Cruz and Home Economics student Cesdianne Daung of Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) as 2nd runner-up.  Another WMSU student, witty and charming BS Biology student, Niña Angelica Sousa, was announced as 3rd runner-up. Shionist Gonzales, WMSU AB Social Sciences student, made it to the magic five as 4th runner-up.

Aside from the big cash prizes, it gave the candidates opportunities to discover themselves more, met new friends, and made them better persons after the contest.  For this, I commend the management of Southway Square Mall for hosting such a contest with a purpose and also for sponsoring other laudable activities for the good of our city in the past.

Congratulations, Miss Southway Square beauties!  Carry your titles with pride and honor.
