Unlike my previous birthdays wherein relatives and friends come and greet me in a grand party, my 72nd birthday last January 19 was an intimate celebration with my husband, Danny, and children. And it felt good to simply celebrate my natal day with loved ones at our home – so relaxing and fun.

Thanks to my buddy, Ganding Bello, who dropped by and helped me prepared spaghetti (my apos’ favorite) and pancit to symbolize long life. The big crispy fried tilapia fishes bought by my daughter-in-law Bing was our “lechon” joked my son Toto. Son Dante led the prayer for me before I blew my 2 birthday cakes from Myrna’s Bake House (my birthday cake for decades) and the ube cake from Montessori De Zamboanga (MDZ) Administrator Marichu Gapoy (her mom is my close friend Romana Salazar). MDZ staff gave me bouquets of flowers. I can say this birthday is one of my memorable celebrations.

But my Zontian sisters (members of socio-civic club Zonta International Club) led by my best friend and like a sister to me, Mary Usman, and my other friends won’t pass it without a get-together. Celebration like this gives us reason to bond together closer. They gave me an as alto last night at our group’s favorite restaurant Lotus of Grand Astoria Hotel.

Thanks to all my relatives and friends who greeted me last Wednesday. Thank you, Lord, for giving me a wonderful year and more years to be with my loved ones and friends all the time.
