June 26, 2013 was a double memorable day for my hubby and me. It was his 74th birthday and we decided to commemorate our Golden Wedding Year on the same day at the Pavilion of Astoria Regency. Yes, we’re married for 50 years and we got married twice. First, our civil marriage on January 4, 1963, then our church wedding on December 6, 1964 for God’s blessing. They were simple ceremonies – no wedding entourage, no big wedding cake, and no pictorial but we thank God for four great professional children, their supportive wives, and six lovable grandchildren.

We are planning actually to have a family golden reunion when my two other US-based children comes home in December. What was planned for a simple birthday party for my hubby and close friends turned into a 2-in-1 thanksgiving affair – his birthday and our mid-year golden wedding year.  In the morning, we had our church’s blessings at Tumaga Parish Church with Fr. Michael Gementiza and had lunch with my two Zamboanga-based sons, Toto (Danny Jr.) and Nonoy (Dante), their wives, and children only.

Evening was more intimate with an impromptu program. Aside from Danny’s friends, I invited my close friends and people closed to our hearts. My bigger circle of relatives as well our other acquaintances will be invited in December when all of our children and grandchildren are complete in attendance.

I am grateful to my close friends Dr. Bernie Santiago, Mary Usman, and Ganding Bello who shared how our party can be more significant.  Danny’s close friends, Atty. Jun Gonzales and Ben Fernandez, disclosed their wonderful times with him. My cousin, Monina Siasico, told our guests little background about my family, and my buddy-buddy Santa Ruste bestowed blessings to us. I thank Bert and Zeny Torres for Danny’s barong and my beaded golden dress. Our fabulous 50th golden cake from Myrna’s Bake House and amazing wedding balloon decorations of By Gems Party Kingdom will always be treasured as part of our special golden year. Our photo golden memories are by my favorite photographer Tanny Tolentino.

Our prayer is to enjoy life’s blessings with good health.
