The Mother Butler Mission Guilds (MBMG) of Zamboanga City celebrated the Feast of Marie Joseph Butler last July 22, 2013 at Tetuan Parish Church with an annual exhibit and installation of new members.

The day started with a Holy Mass with Fr. Francis Jacinto as the main celebrant and Fr. Marciano Villagracia as the co-celebrant. It was followed with a simple breakfast. The exhibit displayed vestments and linens which were turned over different parishes. Among the priest seen there were Fr. Butch Candido, Fr. Jude Dancombe, and Fr. Manny Francis. I spotted past MBMG presidents Nelida Atilano, Pilar Molina and Moning Ledesma too. This year local MBMG president is active Lorraine Piñga.

MBMG was inspired by Mother Marie Jospeh Butler who taught her students and the alumnae of the schools she founded to sew mass vestments and altar linens for parishes. She also taught them how to choose, procure and care for sacred vessels. Six years after her death in 1940, MBMG was conceived to continue her ministry to help the liturgical needs of churches worldwide.

To complement still further the missionary aspect of MBMG, the members pledge to promote vocations to the priesthood through prayers and almsgiving. “The harvest is great but the laborers are few” is an injunction of the Holy Gospel which they take to heart.
