The Zonta Club of Zamboanga City, an international organization of career and professional women, donated used clothes, medicines, rice and food stuff to the Crisis Center of the Dominican Church in Baliwasan last October 5. The group was welcomed by Sister Consolacion Santa Maria. The club decided to donate to this center which houses women abandoned by their spouses and family in this time of crisis .

Club’s president Nene Torres spearheaded the reach-out program. She was accompanied by past presidents Dr. Mila Fernandez, Mary Usman, and  Chit Ong, including Roselia Tan, Charina Sa, Luis, Darlene Tandoc, Cherry Belle Chua, and Evelyn Balbon.

Zonta Club brings out women beyond the four walls of their offices or work place to extend help and make lives better especially for women and children. Other active officers and members of Zonta Zamboanga are Dr. Bernie Santiago, Dr. Cely Tan, Rowena Tan, Fatima Bagis, Fely Gayanilo, Ong sisters Rita, Dr. Nerissa, and Syra, Jenny Que, Lynn Sy, Sharon Ty, and Remy Yuking.

As I write my column today, my heart bleeds for our city and people because of the continuous rain and flood that plague us all. Lord, grant us peace and the serenity to accept why this is happening in our city. May Your great love reign in our hearts so we can reach out to those who are in need. In Jesus name. Amen.
