The City Agriculturist Office has registered more than P1-million in damages to crops following heavy monsoon rains brought by typhoon Ompong last week.

Carmencita Sanchez, City Agriculturist, said  that vegetables worth  more than P800,000, mostly cabbage and eggplants, were destroyed by heavy rains.

She also said that a total of 12 hectares of seaweeds amounting to P210,000 were also destroyed by the rains.

Most of the affected crops were located at the city’s west coast.

A total of 1.6 hectares of ricefields were also affected, translating to a total damage of P21,375.

Meanwhile, 200 families were affected by the rains, based on data from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).
