Mayor Beng Climaco has lauded the women of this city for their resilience in facing the many challenges in their lives as thousands of women from all walks of life joined the “Marcha de las Mujeres” yesterday morning.

“Despite all the challenges that women faced in life, the struggles in raising their families, we are all here today to celebrate the gift and beauty of women,” Mayor Climaco said in her welcome message during the program that followed the walk to Paseo del Mar.

“We are able to survive the difficulties in life in God’s grace and also in partnership with men,” she added.

As early as 6:30 a.m. yesterday, thousands of women from different sectors assembled at Ledesma St downtown (fronting the Bureau of Fire Station) from where they marched to Paseo del Mar. The event was anchored on the theme “Mujer el fuerza dituyo es el fuerza de todo para levanta Y adelanta.”

The participants most of them in purple t-shirts and balloons formed themselves the giant women’s human symbol for posterity and a reminder of the greatness of women in society. Then they performed the Zumba, a dance exercise with the lady chief executive herself leading it with an instructor.

Shortly, the participants proceeded to Centero Latino for the program proper with the newly appointed department head of the City Human Resource and Management Office, Dr. Jane Bascar, as guest speaker.

Dr. Bascar was introduced by Councilor Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar, vice chairperson of the Gender And Development (GAD) focal point.

Prior to the speaker’s inspiration message, Dr. Milagros Fernandez, chairperson of the Local Council of Women, made the declaration of donations, solicitations and acknowledgement of donors/solicitors.
