The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office IX (OWWA-RWO IX) joins the City Government of Zamboanga and other government and non-government offices in the Peninsula in celebrating the 2014 National Women’s Month.

This year’s theme is “Juana, ang Tatag Mo ay Tatag Natin sa Pagbangon at Pagsulong.” The City of Zamboanga has translated this theme into its local version, “Mujer: El Fuerza Dituyo es el Fuerza de Todo para Levanta y Adelanta.”

The objective of this year’s celebration is to recognize women’s resiliency, strengths and contributions to the progress of the country.

In line with the celebration, the OWWA-RWO IX participated and dedicated a march for all the women who stand strong amidst challenges encountered in life. Dressed in purple as a support to women empowerment, the staff and officers of the agency joined the annual march dubbed asMarcha de lasMujeres spearheaded by the local government of the city through the Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point in coordination with the Local Council of Women (LCW), yesterday at 6:30 in the morning. The march started at Ledesma St. fronting Bureau of Fire Station towards Mayor Climaco Avenue to Valderrosa St. then to Paseo del Mar Grounds.

OWWA-RWO IX also recognizes the OFW women who become an inspiration to many Filipinos as they work hard to provide for their family in the country and overseas. Not only that they help their respective families, they also help boost the economy of the Philippines.

With this, the said agency conducted an orientation on RA 9262 otherwise known as Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 (VAWC) and was facilitated by Police Inspector IzelDuaMaraviles, Acting Chief of the WCPD-ZCPO. The orientation helped the officers of OWWA Region 9 understand and respond to various cases and complaints being lodged to the office by their clients especially the spouses and children of OFWs.

The said orientation was conducted at the OWWA Training Room located at 3rd Floor, Goodwill Center, Mayor Jaldon St., Canelar, Zamboanga City.

As the father of the office, Regional Director Hassan Gabra T. Jumdain together with all of the staff of OWWA Region 9 salutes women of all walks of life for their great contribution in nation building.
