An ex-convict was arrested Wednesday morning several months after he ran away with a motorcycle belonging to a policeman.

Gerald Saavedra, 38, married, of San Roque was held by PO2 Danilo Lim, the owner of the motorcycle, at the local wharf.

In his formal complaint filed at the city police office, Lim said that Saavedra borrowed his Honda Wave motorcycle before the September siege last year and failed to return it until last Wednesday when he chanced upon the ex-convict at the wharf.

Lim said Saavedra did not appear before him to explain the whereabouts of his motorcycle.vehicle.

Lim said he kept on looking for Saavedra to get back his motorcycle but he has not seen the latter’s shadow since then.

Last Wednesday morning, Lim spotted Saavedra at the local wharf and immediately held and took him to the police office with the help of City Hall Traffic Enforcers.

During investigation, policemen recovered a matchbox from Saavedra’s possession and found out later that it contained a sachet of suspected shabu and aluminum foil strips.

Saavedra told the police that he had pawned the motorcycle in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay. He was detained at the city police office while the seized suspected shabu was forwarded to the 9th PNP  Crime Laboratory for examination.

Saavedra said he had served prison time for theft at the San Ramon Penal Colony since 2001 to 2012. — Dan Toribio Jr.
