The Sta. Maria Knights of Fr. Eusebio Salvador Council 8330 celebrated its 31st Foundation Day on March 12, 2014.

Simple and austere but very memorable, the special day for Council 8330 headed by its present Grand Knight, SK Arturo Tolentino started with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 5:30 p.m. at the Lady of Purification Parish in Sta. Maria with priest celebrants Rev. Fr. Nonoy de las Penas and his brother Rev. Fr. Naning delas Penas.

The Knights of Columbus Council 8330 started with some 34 young Catholic gentlemen with the late Jose “Jolly” Climaco as its charter Grand Knight on March 12,1983. The council rapidly grew in membership and one time awarded as the biggest membership and recruritment the whole of Mindanao under the late SK Nonoy Esperat.

Known personalities, rich and poor alike became members of the most active and looked-after Knights of Columbus council in Zamboanga today. Some of the original members still very active today are the following; SK Ceferino “Cef” Go, Atty. Orlando “Jan” Ong, SK Rene Ruste, SK Juan Ma “Johnny” Tantoco. Others have either transferred residents or to another council like SK Romeo Jallorina, and SK Vicente Cabanlit. Other charter members still in Zamboanga but no longer active due to old age are SK Willy Dendiego, and Ruben Saavedra and past GK Vicente de los Reyes

A short program and fellowship were held at the KC Chamber where charter members who were able to attend were honored with a Special Certificate of Recognition. — Danny Macansantos
