The municipal government of Tabuan-Lasa is preparing a series of activities for its third year anniversary celebration with the theme, “Unity: The Key to Progress and Pprosperity”, scheduled to kick off on March 27 to 29, 2011.

Tabuan-Lasa Mayor Muctar Junaid in an interview said that municipal government officials recently met and discussed the different activities to be undertaken to make the occasion noteworthy to local residents as well as to the expected visitors.

Junaid said they have invited visitors from other places mostly municipal officials from Basilan and from other places under ARMM.  High ranking military officials led by Wesmincom Commander Lt. General Raymundo Ferrer and police officials are also expected to grace the occasion particularly on March 29, the day of the founding anniversary.

Basilan Congressman Jim Hataman has been invited as guest speaker.
Junaid revealed that several games are slated on the opening day of the three-day celebration. Among them are swimming, volleyball and boat racing, the most highlighted event.

Junaid is expected to turn over during the anniversary two motorized watercraft locally known as “jungkung” worth P.400,000, intended as transport means for the health and education sectors, particularly in delivering smooth services to the residents in the islands.

Municipal officials will also turn over mono block chairs to the schools, both in elementary and high school, as part of their support to the education sector in the said municipality.
Agar-Agar seeds will also be distributed to the seaweed farmers in the island.

Various sectors were elated by the projects and programs that the local government unit has prepared.

Tabuan-Lasa was created in 2008 through a plebiscite with a result favoring for its separation from Sumisip. Despite the limited Internal Revenue Allotment,local government officials worked hard to bring development to the island municipality. —  Noning R. Antonio
