GAD leads training for PWD parents PDF Print E-mail

The City Government’s Gender and Development Focal Point has initiated the conduct of a training for parents with special child/children intended to ensure protection, rights and privileges of children with special needs.

Held at the Centrol Pastoral in Paseo del Mar the other day, the training was participated by members of the Zamboanga City Federation of Parents of Children with Special Needs.

The GAD, which is spearheaded by the City Human Resource and Management Office (CHRMO) believes that children with special needs have the right to live freely and independently through quality education with the support of their parents and relatives.

The activity was held in coordination with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) through the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Unit (PDAU).

Commission on Human Rights -9 PWD Focal Person Atty. Cristina Jimenez discussed in length PWD’s rights and privileges based on Republic Act 9442 otherwise known as “An Act Amending Republic Act 7277 otherwise known as the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons and for other purposes”.

Abdelshan Amilassan, OIC-Chief of the Operations Division of the Land Transportation Office (LTO)-9 on the other hand explained about LTO provisions for PWDs specifically the allocation of a special reservation space for PWDs in every PUJs in the city and throughout Zamboanga Peninsula. — Henry Salac
