The Philhealth Regional Office-9, in collaboration with the Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development and City Government of Zamboanga,  launches its newest program “Alaga ka Para sa Maayos na Buhay ” (Alamin at Gamitin para sa Kalusugan).

This event which was simultaneously held on March 24, 2014 in 17 regions nationwide, aims to empower Philhealth indigent members under the National Household Targeting System (NHTS) by properly instructing them on how to avail of the basic health services at the rural health unit or health centers where they are assigned.

In Zamboanga City, about 500 identified NHTS members from Guiwan, Tetuan, Tugbungan, Sto. Niño, Camino Nuevo, Kasanyangan, Sta Catalina, Sta. Barbara, Mariki, Rio Hondo and Talon-talon of this city attended the launching program held at City Coliseum, Tetuan. The activity will be replicated in three other provinces in Region 9.

However, the highlight of the program was the message given by President Benigno Simeon Aquino III to all 14.7 million families under the NHTS nationwide regarding the expanded health care benefit given by PhilHealth. Also, the president called on all Local Government Unit to support the objective of the Alaga ka program to eventually attain universal health care.

Philhealth Regional Vice-President Romeo D. Alberto along with Mayor Beng Clamaco-Salazar, District 2 Rep. Lilia Macrohon Nuño and other Regional Directors and official representatives from DSWD, Department of Labor and Employment, Philippines Statistics Authority, Zamboanga City Medical Center, City Health Office and Philippine Information Agency led the ceremonial signing in the commitment wall signifying their support on the program and in token of their advocacy on this multi-sector activity. rsjabay
