A 10-year-old girl drowned after she fell from an 18-meter tall hanging bridge in Barangay Salaan last Tuesday morning.

Culianan Police Station chief Sr. Insp. Helen Galvez identified the fatality as Kimberly Mae Delgado y Gregorio, a resident of Zone 4, Salaan.

Delgado was believed to have drowned in the water after she fell from the hanging bridge. Her body was recovered hours later.

A police report disclosed that the girl left home around 9:30 a.m. She went to a store owned by Estelita Manuel located on the other side of the river and bought some candies.

When she was on her way back home passing the hanging bridge, she accidentally stepped on a broken and wet wooden step and slipped. She fell down on the river hitting her head on a stone that made her unconscious.

Police said while the girl was unconscious, she drowned.

After the incident, the girl’s relatives started looking for her body and around 11 a.m. it was recovered seen in the water under the hanging bridge.

Thinking that she was still alive, relatives rushed the girl to the Mindanao Central Sanitarium where attending physicians declared her dead on arrival.
