Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar has alloted and reserved P39-million to finance two projects that would complement each other to boost agricultural development in the province.
The projects are: Provincial Road Infrastructure Development and Rehabilitation; and, Provincial Water Irrigation Project.

Akbar said the provincial government has alloted P30 million “from our development fund” for the rehabilitation and re-paving of currently impassable provincial roads.

“The realization of this program will ensure that our constituents are able to use these roads to cost-effectively transport their goods to big markets in Isabela, Lamitan and Maluso,” Akbar said.
Akbar said the provincial government will initiate new and more comprehensive studies on areas where vital farm support infrastructure such as water irrigation is needed.

“As soon as a complete needs-assessment study is achieved, we shall work to ensure that rice fields and farmlands needing water are adequately and thus made productive,” she said.
“As far as funding is concerned, we are reserving the amount of P9 million from our development fund for this purpose,” she added.

Akbar said these two projects will complement her administration’s efforts at promoting the productivity of rice fields and the cultivation of rubber, which will the way for business and entrepreneurship to take hold even in the hinterlands.
