A police official in Maguindanao was killed by unknown assailants in an ambush Friday.

Inspector Tiongan Namla, chief of police of Mother Kabuntalan town, sustained multiple gunshot wounds from caliber .45 pistols and M16 rifles, police investigators said.

Namla was heading to Cotabato City at 5:40 p.m. yesterday  aboard a motorcycle when gunmen in a green pickup truck without plate number opened fire on him in Barangay Odin Sinsuat town.

Investigators said the attackers could have tailed the victim because they were said to have proceeded to Cotabato City after the incident.

Senior Supt. Rodelio Jocson, Maguindanao police director, has ordered an in-depth investigation of the case.

Just last month, the police investigator of Mother Kabuntalan was also shot dead on his way home. — MindaNews
